Being stuck is one of the most painful feelings we can experience. This infamous creative constipation brings projects to a screeching halt and often to their premature death.

We’ve all been there. We get Christmas-morning excited to start a new project, get some new gear, and start chasing that idea until BAM! There’s the brick wall, the immovable object, but the unstoppable force is nowhere to be found.

This is where I found myself recently, but by sticking to some small habits, mixing up my learning methods, getting warmed up with a familiar idea, and finding a new way to connect to my original path, I was able to reignite my flame and breakthrough the stuckness.

Let me tell you a little more about my journey.

After nearly six months of regular progress, I was stuck. It had been two weeks since my calendar had seen an “X”. Signs of my belly quickly returning. Dust gathering on my laptop and studio gear.

But worse than all that, was the negative chorus that had grown louder and louder with each passing day. You can’t do this. Why were you even trying in the first place. You’ll never finish a project.

My lack of focus had given Resistance more than enough ammunition to keep me perpetually stuck in this cycle of self-hate.

That was it.
